'King Atlas'

i thought i would enter the anatomy thread over on CGTalk. here is my submission WIP.

the base mesh was modeled in Maya, details and posed in ZBrush3 and rendered with VRay in 3DSMax. i'm about 60% of the way through it as there are the finer details to see to. it might be a good opportunity to try out ZBrushs new HD subdivs because my PC is just about ready to keel over!

at the moment the guy is a bit expression-less which i need to address along with more evident signs of a physical struggle. muscles to need to be accentuated, veins needs to be more apparent. his right hand also needs to be rotated to cup the sphere correctly.

the sphere and plinth are temporary for the moment. i might add a subtle displacement map to the sphere later on to bring it in to a globe form.

can any of you guys give your thoughts please?

update:

ive began toying with ideas for detailing the sphere. the 'stair-stepping' effect on the details is caused by me using 8-bit alphas as opposed to 16-bit which i will use instead to amend this evening.

i have done a lot of fine detailing using ZB3s HD geometry but as it stands, i have no idea of getting it all out of ZB in to Max or Maya for rendering. im thinking i may have to go down the route of a combined displacement and cavity map.
